Brides, Boracay and Beaucoup de Baboy
They called it a Tropical Winter Wonderland.
This to be the theme of Gwyneth (Maureen’s cousin) and Mike’s wedding in the Philippines – and coincidentally, what we dreamed of escaping to during an otherwise cold and rainy January in Los Angeles. A contradiction, one would think. Maureen and I decided to travel 17 hours and 7,300 miles to see it for ourselves.
It was a quick trip to the Philippines, another contradiction.
During a little over a week we managed to
- enjoy a short stay on Boracay Island...click here to see our video!
- scuba dive down to see the shipwreck Camia resting at 100 feet
- island hop back to reconvene with family to attend Gwyneth's beautiful wedding and reception at the Manila Polo Club
- drive to Tagaytay and see Taal Volcano
- do a little shopping at the gigantic SM Mega Mall in Ortigas Center, Greenhills in San Juan, and Greenbelt and Glorietta in Makati
- catch rides on tricycles, bicycles and jeepneys
- hit the dance floor at the Embassy at the Fort (a former military base)
- drive in a car knowing the most important rule of the road...that traffic laws are merely suggestions
- eat garlic rice for breakfast daily
- eat plenty of pork (Baboy)
